Born and educated in Wilmington, Mark Batson has considerable roots tied to the area. After growing up in Carolina Beach, Mark decided to pursue a BA in History at UNCW. He then turned his "study of people and the past" into a passion for bringing people and families together.
Mark believes, quite simply, that there is nothing more important than spending time with those you love. Finding a sense of place and appreciating time together in a functionally beautiful environment is what gives his own life meaning. Specializing in waterfront properties, including the communities of Landfall, Figure Eight, and Wrightsville Beach, his clientele includes current and former CEOs and families from major metropolitan markets in North Carolina and the Northeast.
In addition to acting as an agent at Sotheby's International Realty, Batson is also the owner & CEO of the national award-winning design + build firm, Tongue & Groove. In the spring of 2021, his firm was awarded the title of "National Custom Home Builder of the Year" by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) - The most prestigious title a design-build firm can receive in the United States of America. Homes that his firm has designed and built have shattered MLS sales records year over year, specifically in 2017 and 2018, with the highest ever residential property sales in New Hanover County. Today, Mark resides in Wrightsville Beach with his family of five. His extensive experience in real estate, design, and local knowledge ensures his clients will receive comprehensive advice and guidance, whether buying, selling, building, or renovating.
Kelly Batson joins the Mark Batson Group, enriching the team with a wealth of sales and marketing expertise. However, her biggest and most rewarding career accomplishment, thus far, is the tens of thousands of people Kelly has gotten screened to fight cancer. It’s always about the people/customers first. Born and raised in Carolina Beach, he is intricately familiar with the Cape Fear Coast, its history, rarities, and, more importantly, the area's distinctiveness. He should be – his family has been in New Hanover County since the 1740s!
Committed to raising the bar when it comes to outstanding personalized service, John is dedicated to his clients' success and creating the best possible experience along the way. His dedication and work ethic is second to none and inspiring to others. His clients are his number one priority. Batson believes that preparation is vital in doing things the right way the first time, treating others as he wants to be treated, and focusing on the positive things in life.
Most of his experience is in the regulatory side of construction, land development, and the politics associated with them. He works very closely with property owners, builders, developers, and local elected leaders. He has also spent almost 20 years giving back to the community through volunteer firefighting and leading a local nonprofit organization for several years.
John loves the outdoors, and when he isn't on a jobsite or with his family, you'll usually find him on the water somewhere running his fishing business or working on a boat project. He always has a good book on the pacific theater of World War II, Civil War, or about Pirates within hand's reach.
